While Oberst and the band sorted through two decades of music, he was struck by something: he may have been writing the same song the whole time. Not musically, of course, but conceptually. The collection, Noise Floor, includes unreleased early Bright Eyes songs as well as the group's most refined albums, such as Cassadaga and The People's Key. Bright Eyes played 7 sold-out nights of Cassadega at NYC's Town Hall--a major rock-star feat! "Thematically, my early songs aren't much different than the ones I write now," says Oberst, amazed. "It's like I haven't changed or grown. Maybe I just knew what I wanted to write about from the start."
